(patch)works in progress

i've been thinking a lot about collections lately. of images, of patterns, of memories, found objects, even things in my pockets and whatever it is that makes my bag so heavy. our lives are essentially patchworks of little things (physical and emotional) that we keep in the foreground as well as memories we tuck away, but which are still present every day, which shape who we are and what choices we make. there are small pieces of life that are burned in our minds, places layered over experiences, moments filed away next to other moments. my life has patches of freezing ocean water on my toes, tired walks to early classes, songs i sung to no one driving through nowhere, scorching hot winds over cracked arizona roads and my first taste of moonshine in north carolina (ugh.). constellations i looked for in the sky outside raging college parties and alone camping on my car in the desert. i thought about all that in the context of artwork and storytelling, and ended up starting a couple "patchwork" pieces... i'm loving that each little square is art in itself, and the whole of it comes together to tell a story.

here are some in progress pictures of two of them:

there are a couple more on my flickr. i feel like this could be a nice change... we can tell so many stories without words.

what makes up your life?
